Real McCoy - Another Night

Ah, here's a fine example of everyone's favorite musical genre: 90's eurodance. If you were alive during the 90's, you probably remember hearing Another night on the radio. Real McCoy don't stray too far from the 90's eurodance formula. There's two black girls who sing and dance and one super deep voiced European dude who sort of talks over the verses. This stuff is just so cheesy and cliche that it's hard not to enjoy it a little bit. The best tracks are Another Night and Run Away. Then there are two covers (Come and Get Your Love and Ooh Boy) that are pretty fun.

Party Foul

Party Foul was another local band from Indiana. The singer is a friend of mine, but he moved to Chicago for college and the band seemed to be looking for a singer for a while. Today I realized that they officially announced that they were done a couple of days ago. This wasn't really a surprise because they weren't making new music or playing shows, but it gave me the idea that I should post their stuff here.

They're hardcore pop-punk, or posi-core, or whatever it's called. Gang vocals, positive lyrics, power chords, and double bass. It's good stuff. This is all I could find of them. 7 tracks (one intro), and if you like one, you'll probably like the rest. I remember seeing them playing in another friend's basement on his birthday and there was some middle aged Asian couple watching it and they looked uncomfortable as shit. And the band also played a Creed song. So that was amusing. Oh, and that's chocolate milk that he's throwing up in that picture. Not vomit. Well, I guess anything you throw up is vomit...ok I'm done now.

Oh, and check out My Own Orion. It's the singer's solo piano project.

The Hang Ups - He's After Me

A few weeks ago I was watching Chasing Amy. I'd seen it before, but never paid attention to the music I guess. In the Holden and Alyssa hanging out montage scene, there's a song called "Jump Start" playing. It's so perfectly 90's, and it's a great mood setter. I had to get the album. This one was pretty expensive for an old used cd. Like $7 I think. That's not a lot of money or anything, but usually when I buy used cds they're in the $0-$3 range. I'd describe these guys as early 90's power-pop rock. The album opener, "Waiting", is really good, and got me excited for the rest of the cd. However, there's only about 4 songs that I find myself listening to if I'm not popping the cd in to listen to the whole thing. If you like 90's music, you'll love some of these songs though.

Helicopter Helicopter - By Starlight

I first heard these guys (and girl) on the cartoon Clone High (which is possibly the greatest not-for-kids cartoon ever created...watch it NOW). Their song "By Starlight" was on the unofficial soundtrack I downloaded, and it's an awesome song. After a lot of searching, I ended up buying it. Unfortunately, like most things I buy and post on this blog, the one song I had previously heard was the best. The other songs aren't bad, but nothing else stood out after one or two listens. I'll have to listen to it more. It's sort of like early 2000's alternative rock/power-pop with 90's emo influences. Something about them, particularly the title track, reminds me of newer Saves The Day.

Custom - Fast

According to Wikipedia..."Custom (also known as Duane Lavold) is a Canadian-born, New York-based rock musician best known for his song "Hey Mister"." I remember listening to Hey Mister when it was new. And awesome. It's no longer new, but it's still awesome. The video for it was banned from MTV because they thought it was pedophilic and offensive to women even though the chick in the video was 22. Custom is sort of like a grittier Beck, I guess. Alternative rock with some hip-hoppish elements thrown in every once in a while. Lots of sexual lyrics, drug lyrics, and bad lyrics. The only copy of this I can find on a blog is something like 96 kbps, so here's a better version.

Everything - Super Natural

I've got a thing for 90's music, so I had to check out this cd. I had heard the song Hooch by these guys (and you probably have too, even if you don't realize it...it was on the radio, and Water Boy, and Scrubs), and figured their other stuff probably had to be good too. And it is. But nothing else on this cd is as good as Hooch, or very similar to it. These guys sound like a younger, hipper, late-nineties Dave Matthews Band. They're sort of jammy and have a sax in a lot of the songs. I don't even really like Dave Matthews Band, but I enjoyed this album. I haven't listened to it enough to write much else about the songs on it, but it turned out really good for being pretty much a blind purchase.

These Enzymes - The Henry E.P. (UPDATE)

UPDATE: NO LONGER SHITTY BITRATE AND REMIX PARTS. I bought a copy and ripped it in VBR. This new version also has all the different separate parts/solo instruments/vox of the song Goodnight For Bad Guy so you can make your own remixes.

This hardcore group consists of Mike Kennerty and Chris Gaylor of All American Rejects, a guy named Andrew Palmer (who apparently played in bands called Burnpile, The Lunchbunch, and Zildo), and former Sons of Abraham/Irony of Lightfoot frontman Neil Rubenstein. I first heard of these guys because Matt Taylor, the bass player for Motion City Soundtrack played with them for a little while or something. I don't remember. But there's a connection between the two bands, so I checked them out. I could only really find one song from them called "Song 1 (AKA Goodnight Bad Guy)", but I really liked it. Eventually through some very sneaky sneaky method, I obtained the other four tracks. Unfortunately they aren't the best quality. 96kbps, but surprisingly listenable. If anyone has a better quality version of this, let me know. Leave a comment. Actually, if you like anything you see on this site, leave a comment so I know if anyone actually uses this site.

Color By Numbers - Untitled

OK, so here's a local band that I actually like. Color By Numbers. My neighbor used to play bass for them, so that's how I first heard about the band. They had something like 7 or 8 different bassists before they eventually broke up, so I don't think the guy was with them for too long. And he's not in that picture.

So about the music...it's good piano driven, early 2000's, pop punk type stuff. Some of the standout tracks are Spring Break, Sara, Goodbye Friend...actually they're all pretty good. There's some good stuff on their Myspace too that isn't on this album, so definitely give that a listen. I had to look pretty hard to find out the names of some of these songs because there's no track listing anywhere on the internet, and this was just ripped from a burnt cd made by the band, so one or two songs may not be completely right. Some songs I've found under different titles, one I just completely guessed based on another track listing of theirs. Anyway, I think you'll like this one.

Abraham (Jettingham) - Neato

If you've ever heard of this band, it's either because you're from Indiana, or you know them as Jettingham. Abraham was a local band from around here that got somewhat popular, and got some decent radio play with their song "Cheating". When they got signed, they changed their name to Jettingham, and kept a lot of the songs on here to put on their major label (I think it was a major label...) debut. "Cheating" was on the American Pie 2 soundtrack actually. There's some pretty good tunes on this one, the aforementioned song being the best. Now they're broken up and hate each other or something. Some article apparently called them "the next Three Doors Down". Ha.

Big Audio Dynamite II - Rush (Single)

I used to really be into The Clash. I heard that Mick Jones, their guitarist and sometimes singer had a project called Big Audio Dynamite after The Clash ended. I found this in a cd bin at a Goodwill a little while after I heard about them and bought it. It's a single, so it's only 4 songs. There's the song Rush, a dance mix of it, a live version of it, and then a song called City Lights. I only remember what the original Rush sounds like, but I know that it's pretty decent. It's like a mix of rock, dance, and hip hop. If you like the Clash, and haven't heard these guys before, give it a listen.

Definitely Gary - The New Deal

Yay, another local band that you probably don't know or care about! I saw these guys on public access tv one day performing a song called "Yogos In Your Mouth". I thought it was amusing. Someone got an autographed copy of it and gave it to me as a gift. Interestingly enough, I recognized one of the names as a local high school teacher. But that's not important. Actually, none of this is, but whatever. I don't care much for the rest of their music. Maybe you will. They're....quirky rock. They claim that their influences are Talking Heads, Presidents of the United States (who they opened for once), Ween, etc. Somewhat accurate.

Little-T and One Track Mike - Fome Is Dape

This is actually one of my favorite albums ever. It's just a really fun hip hop album. A lot of the lyrics are kind of goofy, but they really grown on you. You might remember their one semi-hit song "Shaniqua" about how Little-T keeps getting called at his dorm room by people asking for a girl named Shaniqua, to which he replies "Shaniqua don't live here no mo". Slick Rick has a guest appearance on the track "Guidance Counselor" (a personal favorite) and Ben Kweller plays guitar on the song "A Little More", which Little-T doesn't even rap on. Instead the group's friend (and possibly band member) Shank Bone Mystic sings on it. It's a really nice old school soul/R&B song. I also just want to mention the song "Wings" because it's so good. I highly recommend this album. Unfortunately, this is the only album they put out. Little-T still puts out music under the name Tim Fite. I think he has one hip hop album and some folk stuff.

I also have a song they did for the Scooby Doo soundtrack and the TRL Christmas compilation.
Leave a comment if you'd like to see those put up here.

Take Sides - Last Transmission

Take Sides is another local band. Eventually I'll get back to posting non-local bands, but I still have one or two left I think. Not that anyone really checks this site ever and would complain about the local bands, but you know. Back to the band. They're like hardcore punk ska I guess. Punk guitars, hardcore punk vocals, ska horns. I never actually saw the band live, but my brother used to go to shows and picked this up I think. The band isn't together anymore. There aren't too many local bands that I actually enjoy at all, but this is one of them. If you like punk and ska music, I'll think you'll....TAKE my SIDE on this one. Get it? That's funny, right?

Shadeland - Escape Plan

The one year I went to Warped (band lineups have sucked the past few years...especially this year) a local Indianapolis band approached my friend and I. They offered me this CD if I promised to come see their set later. Well, I got the CD, but forgot to watch their set. I probably wouldn't have anyway even if I remembered. Obviously that band was Shadeland.

One day I was listening to this with headphones on and fell asleep (not necessarily because it was boring). I woke up and was confused as fuck. I was all drowsy and heard a lot of voices talking. I looked at the cd and it was still playing 11 minutes into the last track. I guess there's a little secret thing at the end. And I remember they start talking about masturbation and segue into talking about having a Friends trivia game on their bus or something. One of them calls Friends "pretty masturbatory". Any band that plays and or masturbates to Friends triva is alright with me. I'd tell you more about the music but I don't listen to this one too often. Just look at the RIYL section. I don't listen to those bands either so I can't tell you how accurate it is. The vocals are similar to Incubus though. So check them out on Myspace too. Enjoy.

1000 Clowns - Freelance Bubblehead

I first heard 1000 Clowns on the Good Burger soundtrack, which had the song "(Not the) Greatest Rapper". Years later, I had an urge to hear what else 1000 Clowns had to offer. After a lot of searching for a download for it, I ended up buying the CD (and getting an advance promo copy unfortunately). And now you can get it here.

Anyway, more about the group. Kevi (who, according to Wikipedia, won an award for being the Whitest Human Alive) raps, and has 2 backup singers. They make nearly every song that they're on much worse. There are a lot of songs on here that could be really good, then I hear the backup singers, and it ruins it for me. Also, some of the subject matter is just plain stupid. Like a dog that shits on a rug (on top of an Al Green sample...). Or the trouble Kevi faces when he loses his cat. Then there's the last track (which is one of the best) which is about his father having AIDS. Kind of an awkward transition in subject matter. On a positive note, Kevi has a really nice, smooth, chill, and likable voice when he raps, and lot of the songs have fantastic beats. Anyway, check it out.

Slide Coaster - Thrown

Alright. Here's my first real post. Slide Coaster is an older band of Motion City Soundtrack's leading man Justin Pierre. Has a very 90's alternative vibe to it. It's not bad. I don't listen to it very often though, so I can't say much about it. Definitely check it out if you're an MCS fan.

HELLLOOO

Hello. I've decided to create an mp3 blog. This will contain older and smaller releases, or ones that are just impossible to find on other blogs (maybe possible with torrents, but I stopped using those for music a while ago), but I have obtained through a lot of searching or actually buying the album and ripping it myself. If you're looking for new leaks, this isn't the place.
